# MASTERBlockBuster50Days After performing as a child artist in films directed by his father, Vijay started playing the lead roles at the age of 18 from Nalaiya Theru (1992).  Vijay appeared alongside Vijayakanth in Sindhurpandi (1993), which did somewhat well at the box office.  In 1994, his film Rasigan was released, which may be considered his first success but was not critically acclaimed.  It was the first film in which Vijay was credited with the prefix Ilya Thalapathy (Young Commander), An episode by which he became popular among fans and the media for the rest of his career. In 1997, Vijay starred in the successful venture Kalamelam Kathiruppan and as a sacrifice lover in Love Today and as a businessman in Once More, where he co-starred with veteran Tamil film actor Shivaji Ganesan and new actress Simran.
